Wrongful Trading $92.4 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Wrongful trading is a type of civil wrong found in UK insolvency law, under s 214 Insolvency Act 1986. It was introduced to enable contributions to be obtained for the benefit of creditors from those responsible for mismanagement of the insolvent company. The principle of wrongful trading was introduced in the Insolvency Act 1986, to complement the concept of fraudulent trading. Unlike fraudulent trading, wrongful trading needs no finding of intent to defraud (which requires a heavy burden of proof). Wrongful trading is therefore a less serious, and more common offence than fraudulent trading. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Insider Trading in Loss Firms. $115.71 This study investigates whether insiders in loss firms trade their company stock differentially around new loss and loss reversal earnings announcements. Research suggests that the likelihood of litigation influences managers stock trading decisions prior to material events. Using a long event methodology, the study hypothesizes and finds that insiders reduce their net stock sales in a monotonic manner before a new loss announcement presumably to avoid improper trading allegations before bad news. This decrease is more pronounced if the new loss is the start of a multiple loss sequence. In contrast, there is no significant change in net trading patterns in the quarters prior to a loss reversal announcement irrespective of whether the loss reversal is the start of a single profit or multiple profit sequence indicating that insiders seem less concerned about legal implications when trading before good news. The results suggest that insiders in loss firms perceive asymmetric litigation risks to trading stock in the quarters before bad news relative to good news and act accordingly. 10: The Essential Rules for Beating the Market $24.95 If someone told you they knew a better way to make money in today’s stock market, would you believe them? What if they said their approach, which only takes a few hours a week to maintain, could double your net worth every three to four years and keep your downside risk extremely low? While this may seem impossible to most investors, author Michael Turner—a civil (and then software) engineer turned professional portfolio manager—has accomplished this objective, and with his new book 10: The Essential Rules for Beating the Market, he’ll show you how to do the same. After selling his successful software company in 1997, Turner entrusted his nest egg to one of the biggest investment firms on Wall Street. And over the course of two years, they proceeded to lose almost half of it! That’s when Turner decided to see what he could do on his own, and that’s when he discovered that the key to capturing consistent profits in the stock market is having a well-defined set of trading rules and the discipline to follow those rules. With this in mind, he developed a straightforward investment strategy—one based on ten specific rules—that allowed him to build a world-class portfolio of stocks and generate significant returns in any market.Filled with in-depth insights and practical advice, 10 takes you step by step through the process of creating and managing a market-beating stock portfolio with this proven approach, and shows you how to select and trade stocks using a combination of both fundamental and technical analysis. Following the rules and methodologies outlined throughout these pages, you’ll quickly learn how to get into a stock at the right time and, more importantly, when to exit that position. You’ll also discover how to view the market—as well as the various industry sectors within it—and interpret what is happening on a broader scale, so you can maximize profits on individual positions and boost the overall performance of |

Excerpt: The East India Company (also the East India Trading Company, English East India Company, and then the British East India Company) was an early English joint-stock company that was formed initially for pursuing trade with the East Indies, but that ended up trading mainly with the Indian subcontinent and China. The oldest among several similarly formed European East India Companies, the Company was granted an English Royal Charter, under the name Governor and Company of Merchants of London Trading into the East Indies, by Elizabeth I on 31 December 1600. After a rival English company challenged its monopoly in the late 17th century, the two companies were merged in 1708 to form the United Company of Merchants of England Trading to the East Indies, commonly styled the Honourable East India Company, and abbreviated, HEIC; the Company was colloquially referred to as John Company, and in India as Company Bahadur (Hindustani bahdur, “brave”). The East India Company traded mainly in cotton, silk, indigo dye, saltpetre, tea, and opium. However, it also came to rule large swathes of India, exercising military power and assuming administrative functions, to the exclusion, gradually, of its commercial pursuits. Company rule in India, which effectively began in 1757 after the Battle of Plassey, lasted until 1858, when, following the events of the Indian Rebellion of 1857, and under the Government of India Act 1858, the British Crown assumed direct administration of India in the new British Raj. The Company itself was finally dissolved on 1 January 1874, as a result of the East India Stock Dividend Redemption Act. The Company long held a privileged position in relation to the English, and later the British, government. As a result, it was frequently granted… More: |
