Parent Tips – The Five Best Investments for Parents
Investing for the future is very important. You can choose vehicles like a 401K, stocks, IRA’s or other vehicles. Investments start small in hopes of future returns. However, investments do have uncertainty and risk. In America today, uncertainty looms with the collapse of real estate, companies closing and budget problems in every state. It is very challenging to pick an investment with high returns. My background is investing, but not all of my investments were positive. In my opinion, the following 5 investments provide infinite returns. These returns cannot even be measured financially.
Children’s self-esteem – You are the best person that can build the self esteem of your child. Children with high self-esteem and confidence are in a better position to reach their fullest potential in life. High self-esteem gives them confidence in dealing with life’s challenges. A strong feeling of self worth can serve them well in school and later in life. Use encouraging language daily and applaud all of their victories, talents and accomplishments.
Time for yourself – As parents, we often think of ourselves last and our children first. Make sure to take some time for yourself. Start a hobby, exercise or an enjoyable activity. Just make sure that you enjoy it and it relaxes you. The more you nurture yourself, the more you will have to give to others. Take in a movie, get a massage or enjoy a glass of wine after the kids are tucked into bed.
Your health, Exercise -If the weather permits, take your children to the park. You can also exercise on your own with yoga. There are some great instructional Yoga DVD’s you can use. Consider jumping jacks, treadmills or small trampolines for indoor activities also. Start by taking a short walk down the street. There are endless benefits to exercise. These include a healthier and longer life. It can definitely reduce stress and help you relax.
Children’s health and well being- You are your child’s counselor, Dr. Mom/Dad, teacher, coach, advisor and friend. Give them words of encouragement before they leave to school each morning. Greet them right after school and ask them about their day. End each day at the side of their bed and tuck them in. Give them at least 3 hugs a day. Be proactive in your children’s health and stay educated.. Lastly, be a good role model to your children because children copy what they see.
Time with children – Your time is the best thing you could ever give to your children. Give your children an early inheritance, your time. Do little things together like setting the table and homework. Spend 10 minutes with them right after school or right after work. Let them show you what they are currently playing with or drawing. Do pay attention to them, so they won’t feel you too busy. You want them to always approach you, especially when they get older. I ran a business from my home, so I had to balance time between the children and work. If you can’t be disturbed, let them know nicely that you will be available in just a little bit. Then catch up with them.
It is the Quantity of Quality time you spend with your family that builds a lifelong foundation of joy.

Assessing Child Survival Programs: A Test of Lot Quality Assurance Sampling in a Developing Country $12.55 Throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America public health professionals and paraprofessionals work to control serious, frequent and preventable causes of death and sickness among women and children. Despite international agreement about which health programs to implement and huge investments to support them, avoidable deaths remain high. One reason is the inadequate quality with which programs are implemented.Assessing Child Survival Programs in Developing Countries provides local health system managers with basic principles for rapid precise program monitoring and evaluation in difficult tropical conditions. Joseph Valadez explains how to adapt Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) as used in industrial quality control more than half a century ago, to assess health program coverage and technical quality of service providers. He shows that by examining no more than 19 children from a health facility catchment area a manager can judge whether coverage with child survival interventions has reached a minimal level, and how to observe health workers perform a task 6 times to judge their technical competency.Joseph Valadez demonstrates that quick assessment is not necessarily dirty, and can provide the information needed to enhance child survival throughout the developing world. In that spirit Assessing Child Survival Programs in Developing Countries is a path breaking text book of modern health services research that both practitioners and students will find indispensable and understandable. |

Do As I Say-not As I Do $2.94 From the Publisher:Prominent liberals support a whole litany of policies and principles: progressive taxes, affirmative action, greater regulation of corporations, raising the inheritance tax, strict environmental regulations, children’s rights, consumer rights, and more. But do they actually live by these beliefs? Peter Schweizer decided to investigate the private lives of politicians like the Clintons, Nancy Pelosi, the Kennedys, and Ralph Nader; commentators Michael Moore, Al Franken, Noam Chomsky, and Cornel West; entertainers or philanthropists Barbra Streisand and George Soros. Using publicly-available real estate records, IRS returns, court depositions, and their own published statements, he sought to examine whether they lived by the principles they so forcefully advocate. What he found was a long list of contradictions. Many of these proponents of organized labor had developed various methods to sidestep paying union wages or avoid employing unions altogether. They were also adept at avoiding taxes; invested heavily in corporations they had denounced; took advantage of foreign tax credits to use non-American labor overseas; espoused environmental causes while opposing those that might affect their own property rights; hid their investments in trusts to avoid paying estate tax; denounced oil companies but quietly owned them.Schweizer’s conclusion is simple: liberalism in the end forces its adherents to become hypocrites. They adopt one pose in public, but when it comes to what matters most in their own lives – their property, their privacy, and their children–they jettison their liberal principles and adopt conservative ones. If these ideas don’t work for the very individuals who promote them, Schweizer asks, how can they work for the country?About the Author:Peter Schweizer is a fellow at the Hoover Institution and the author of several books, including Reagan’s War and The Bushes. He lives in Florida with his wi |

Excerpt: Mata Hari was the stage name of Margaretha Geertruida “Grietje” Zelle MacLeod (7 August 1876, Leeuwarden 15 October 1917, Vincennes), a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan who was executed by firing squad for espionage during World War I. Margaretha Geertruida Zelle was born in Leeuwarden, Friesland in the Netherlands, the eldest of four children of Adam Zelle (2 October 1840, Leeuwarden – 13 March 1910, Amsterdam) and first wife (m. Franeker, 4 June 1873) Antje van der Meulen (21 April 1842, Franeker – 9 May 1891, Leeuwarden). She had three brothers. Her father owned a hat store, made successful investments in the oil industry, and became affluent enough to give Margaretha a lavish early childhood. Thus, Margaretha attended only exclusive schools until age 13. However, Margaretha’s father went bankrupt in 1889, her parents divorced soon thereafter, and Margaretha’s mother died in 1891. Her father remarried in Amsterdam on 9 February 1893 to Susanna Catharina ten Hoove (11 March 1844, Amsterdam – 1 December 1913, Amsterdam), with whom he had no children. The family had come apart and she moved to live with her godfather, Heer Visser, at Sneek. At Leiden, she studied to be a kindergarten teacher, but when the headmaster began to flirt with her conspicuously, she was removed from the institution by her offended godfather. After only a few months, she fled to her uncle’s home in The Hague. Margaretha Zelle and Rudolph MacLeod in 1897At 18, she answered an advertisement in a Dutch newspaper placed by a man looking for a wife. Margaretha married Dutch Colonial Army officer … More: |

Family Investments in Children $12.39 The quantity of childcare is decisive for children”s well-being and skill development. Understanding parental dedication to childcare is important. Contemporary research on parenting has uncovered two important trends. First, particularly among fathers, parental childcare has increased notably over the past decades. Mothers” parental contributions have also risen despite the concomitant increase in the maternal labor supply. Second, the trend is associated with some polarization since the intensification of parental investment in children”s care is far more pronounced among the highly educated.
