Will higher taxes on investment income cause more or less investment to take place in the US economy?
With 10% unemployment don’t we need to encourage investment in the economy or is it better to discourage it?
People won’t stop Investing just because they might have to pay higher taxes on the return, especially since those gains can be offset by any losses they incur.

Household Income in the United States $146.58 Household income is a measure commonly used by the United States government and private institutions. That measure counts all the income of all residents over the age of 18 in each household, including not only all wages and salaries, but such items as unemployment insurance, disability payments, child support payments, regular rental receipts, as well as any personal business, investment, or other kinds of income received routinely. The residents of the household do not have to be related to the head of the household for their earnings to be considered part of the households income. As households tend to share a similar economic context, the use of household income remains among the most widely accepted measures of income. That the size of a household is not commonly taken into account in such measures may distort any analysis of fluctuations within or among the household income categories, and may render direct comparisons between quintiles difficult or even impossible. In 2007, the median annual household income rose 1.3 to 50,233.00 according to the Census Bureau. Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 246 Publication Date: 2010/01/05 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.55 inches |

Investment in Wind Energy in Europe $101.96 Wind energy industry is young and has been growing rapidly for the past 15 years, with over half of global installed wind power capacity located in Europe. Although there has been a large amount of literature focusing on the development of wind power in Europe, little econometric research has been done in this area. This book sets to find out whether there is a direct relationship between the fuel prices and the level of investment in wind power in the EU countries. The research is based on six year panel data on the European Union countries. The results of the research are as follows. No direct link has been found between the fuel prices and the investment in wind power. Moreover, wind energy support schemes which are unobserved factors in the model, have been found to have an impact on the investment in wind power capacity. On top of it, GDP per capita has a positive and statistically significant effect on the investment in wind power, suggesting that European countries in the higher income range were more likely to invest in wind power in 20012006 rather than those in the lower income range. This work should be especially useful for energy policy researchers and economists. Investment Behavior of Firms $114.71 Real investment takes a prominent position in determination of national income in modern industrial economies. Unfortunately investment behaviour of firms remains an area still poorly understood by economists and policy makers. Economic research identifies certain factors, both real and financial, to have significant influence on firm level investment decisions. However, the nature and extent of their association with real investment decisions is still widely debated. This book attempts to shed light on some of these hitherto unsolved issues. The book contains comprehensive theoretical analysis of the impact of uncertainty, capital market imperfections and debt overhang on investment decision of firms. A panel data regression has also been conducted to find out the relative importance of these factors on firm level investments. The book will be of interest to post graduate students of economics and management. Policy makers and corporate houses will also find this book useful. Author: Chakrabarti, Debkumar Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 160 Publication Date: 2008/07/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.00 x 6.00 x 0.34 inches |

101 Businesses You Can Start with Less Than One Thousand Dollars: For Retirees $7.19 According to a study by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, people starting their working careers will face the following situation when they retire at age 65: they will have annual incomes between $4,000.00 and $26,000.00. According to the Social Security Administration, today’s retirees can only count on corporate pensions and Social Security for 61 percent of their income at retirement. The remainder must come from other sources. If the same holds true in the future, today’s workers need to accumulate enough in personal savings to make up a 39 percent shortfall in their retirement income. The solution for many after they have played enough golf and caught enough fish will be to start a small part-time business. Detailed in this new book are over 100 business ideas that can be started for very little money and yet may provide retired people with a lot more money than they would earn being paid by the hour. This is a collection of businesses selected especially for retirees who are interested in augmenting their income. These businesses can be started with minimum training and investment and are all capable of producing extra income. Most can easily be operated by one person and eventually be sold for an additional profit. Many of these businesses can actually be started with less than one hundred dollars and some can really be started with next to nothing. Some can even be operated from home. Starting and managing a business takes motivation and talent. It also takes research and planning. This new book is intended to serve as a roadmap for starting your business. It is both comprehensive and easy to use. It also includes numerous Web links for additional information. While providing detailed instruction and examples, the author leads you in developing a winning business plan, setting up the structure of the business and accounting and bookkeeping procedures, tending to legal concerns, devising sales and marketing techniques, calculating |
