Does anyone know of a total stock market fund or etf?
Besides the VTSMX and VTI ONES.
Fidelity, T. Rowe Price and other fund families also have Total {domestic} stock market funds like VTSMX. But those funds are not “total stock market” funds — no foreign holdings except for ADR’s. But Vanguard and the others also have “Target Retirement” funds which cover everything so (imo) are the real “total market” funds. There are also Global funds.

Buy–DON’T Hold: Investing with ETFs Using Relative Strength to Increase Returns with Less Risk $26.99 Buy-and-hold investors hope for the best over the long-term, but unfortunately, every three to four years, like clockwork, bear markets decimate their portfolios. In the last decade, there were two devastating bear markets that wiped out 50% of investor portfolio values, not once but twice. These huge losses resulted in millions of investors having to delay their retirement plans, postpone funding of college education for children and grandchildren, and delay life’s many joys. You simply can't afford to be invested during these inevitable, large-scale declines. Now, you can use an easy-to-use investing strategy that delivers better returns with far less risk than “buy and hold.” Leslie N. Masonson, stock market investor, researcher and author, helps you regain control over your portfolio using low-cost, low-risk, ETFs selected with his unique “Stock Market Dashboard” that reliably signals market bottoms and tops – and can tell you exactly when to get in and out. When it is time to invest, Masonson shows how to use Relative Strength Analysis to purchase the strongest ETF market segments with the best growth potential. He provides a specific investing approach and strategy for individuals with three different levels of risk tolerance: conservative, moderate and aggressive. Replete with examples, Buy-Don't Hold contains all the easy-to-use information you need to craft an investing strategy that meets your needs, lets you sleep at night, and reaps rewards in bull and bear markets alike. Create Your Own Hedge Fund: Increase Profits and Reduce Risks with ETF’s and Options (Wiley Trading Series) $59.95 Millions of investors have lost trillions of dollars to turbulent markets over the past five years. Millions of others, however, have used innovative strategies to hold their own and even see their portfolios increase in value. Create Your Own Hedge Fund outlines one such strategy using exchange traded funds (ETFs) and options.ETFs such as DIAMONDs and VIPERS are fast replacing traditional mutual funds among investors attracted by their reduced expenses and increased versatility and variety, along with the fact—critical to the book’s strategies—that ETFs trade on exchanges and are optionable. Option writing, on the other hand, has proven to give investors more winning positions, fewer losing positions (with smaller losses when they do occur), and less fluctuation in portfolio value.Create Your Own Hedge Fund combines the best aspects of both ETFs and options into an investing program that works well in both bull and bear markets, is affordable for the bulk of investors, and provides overall package returns that are steadier and more predictable than those provided by its component pieces. This results-driven book is divided into four parts that fully examine each element:PART I discusses the foundation of the book’s program, Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT), and why MPT makes it difficult, if not impossible, for investors to beat the market. It then introduces the advantages and drawbacks of hedge funds, and how to invest like a hedge fund with less risk and lower cost.PART II discusses mutual funds, both traditional and newer exchange traded funds, and explains why ETFs are a superior alternative for the majority of investors. PART III covers the basics and mechanics of options and option writing, a strategy that is historically considered risky but actually entails far less risk than traditional buy-and-hold.PART IV provides the payoff, explaining how to construct a foundation portfolio and choose an option to write, then providing |
